The Bible is a vital element in the life of a believer. It is much more than just an ordinary book. The words contained within have been passed through the ages by God’s chosen people. This book is crucial to living the Christian life and is one of the ways God still speaks directly to people today.

Do you ever feel overwhelmed with trying to read the Bible? I know that’s how I felt about it for many years. It was difficult to understand, and I really couldn’t follow a lot of what was going on. What I discovered, however, is that just opening the pages of this book and reading the words can have an impact even though you think you don’t comprehend them. The words within this book are the very words ordained by God to His people. Every word within its pages is there for a purpose. As we read the verses, God can teach us or show us things that are meant just for us as individuals. Even though you may not understand something when you first read it, they are planted within you and God can reveal the meaning to you in His perfect timing and just when you need them
most.

When you begin your journey into studying the Bible, you will notice something very interesting about the overall message and focus of the Bible text. From cover to cover, you will be amazed to realize that it all points to one person, Jesus. There are hundreds of references to Jesus in the Old Testament alone. He was God’s plan from the beginning. Let’s look at a few references from scripture that point to Jesus as the Word.

John 1:1-5 (NKJV) — In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

John 1:14 (NKJV) — And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Revelation 19:13 (NKJV) — He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

You can see how important the Bible is to the Christian life. It is vital to stay in the Word of God daily. Reading, studying, and consuming God’s message to His people. This book was written to each and every one of us. Think of it as God’s personal letter to you. Expressing through it His unfathomable love, grace, and mercy. It is a key way that we can actually sense God speaking to us by unveiling messages that seem to leap off of the pages right when you need them most.

I invite you to begin an amazing journey into the very Word of God. If you feel overwhelmed with reading the Bible and find it difficult to comprehend some of the language used through some of the translations, then I would suggest you look into different translations. The one translation that really helped me when I first began to study the Bible was the New Living Translation (NLT). After starting with the King James version, I found the NLT to be a refreshing way to really grasp the overall idea of what was going on in scripture. You can always reference the more complex translations as you grow deeper into your walk with God.
